Description
💜✨ PURPLE RAIN – a purple fireworks display with a metallic sheen in the flower bed
The ornamental allium PURPLE RAIN (Allium ‘Purple Rain’) is an exceptionally striking decorative allium whose deep purple flowers have a beautiful metallic sheen. The large, airy flower clusters consist of star-shaped flowers arranged on long flower stalks and resemble a purple fireworks display floating above the garden bed. The shape of the inflorescence resembles that of star onion (Allium christophii), but PURPLE RAIN grows tall and graceful.
The plant grows to a height of about 90–100 cm and blooms in May–June. Its tall, sturdy stems lift the large purple flower clusters beautifully above other plants, making this variety an excellent choice for planting among perennials and ornamental grasses.
💐 A wonderful cut flower! PURPLE RAIN is prized for its excellent cut-flower qualities. The airy, metallic-sheened blooms give bouquets a luxurious and architectural look. Even after blooming, the dried blooms retain their beautiful shape and are well-suited for dried flower arrangements.
🌿 PURPLE RAIN naturalizes well. In a suitable growing location, it can form increasingly larger and more striking clumps over the years. Therefore, this variety is well-suited for both home gardens and larger landscaped areas.
🐝 The abundance of star-shaped flowers attracts bees, bumblebees, and other pollinators to the garden. You’ll get the best results if you plant the bulbs in clusters.
🌿 It pairs perfectly with peonies, salvias, coreopsis, lady’s mantle, and ornamental grasses.
