Corydalis ‘Purple Bird’ (Corydalis solida) is a striking early spring perennial admired for its intense deep purple flowers and delicate fern-like foliage. Flowering from March to April, it brings vibrant colour to the garden when very few other plants are in bloom. Originally selected by Dutch breeder Jan Huisman from his renowned “Bird” series, this vigorous cultivar is noted for its rich flower colour and strong growth.
Growing to approximately 20–30 cm tall, PURPLE BIRD is perfect for woodland gardens, shaded borders, beneath deciduous trees, and naturalistic plantings. Its elegant flower spikes rise above fresh green foliage, creating beautiful carpets of colour when planted in groups.
This hardy perennial naturalises well, gradually forming larger colonies through underground tubers. It is also an important early nectar source for bees and other pollinators, helping support wildlife at the very beginning of the growing season.
