Gladioli (also called Sword Lily or Gladiola) are perennials that grow from corms. They have a fan of sword-shaped leaves, and spires of funnel-shaped, showy flowers in a wide range of colours. They are popular in cottage-style gardens, or at the back of borders, where they give height and colour. They also make good cut flowers. ‘Lake Big Bear’ has pale lilac flowers and a pale yellow throat.
