The Giant Bottle Gourd (Lagenaria siceraria) is a fast-growing, vigorous climbing variety that produces very large, bottle-shaped fruits, often known as calabashes when dried. These massive fruits are excellent for crafting bowls, containers, lamps, birdhouses, ornaments and artistic projects.

When harvested young, the fruits are edible, with a mild flavour and tender flesh — suitable for stir-fries, stews, curries, roasting or stuffing.

When fully mature, the fruits develop a hard shell that can be dried and used as kalebass-type vessels. The plant is a strong climber and performs best with sturdy support structures, pergolas or trellises. Thrives in warm, sunny conditions and rich soil.
